Mike Franzak

FranzakMike Franzak began his military career as an enlisted man in 1981. Awarded an NROTC scholarship while on active duty he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Marines in 1987.

He flew AV-8B Harriers for most of his career and deployed overseas numerous times to include Afghanistan in 2003-2004. Franzak retired from the military in 2006.

His personal decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V,” Air Medal with strike award number “5,” among others.  He currently lives with his wife and children in Raleigh, NC and continues to support U.S. embassies overseas as a pilot.

A Nightmare’s Prayer is his first book, and the winner of the 2012 Colby Award.
